Bill Hader; Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in 'Titanic' in 1997It’s hard to spoil a movie like Titanic, but back in 1997, Bill Hader managed to — and lost his job for doing so.
On the most recent episode of Netflix’s Everybody's Live with John Mulaney, the Barry star recalled getting fired from his pre-fame movie theater job for ruining the ending of James Cameron’s blockbuster for a group of rude sorority members.
“I was working in a movie theater, and Titanic hadn't come out yet,” Hader, 46, told host John Mulaney, “and a sorority had bought out the movie theater.”
Hader explained that the group was blocking a doorway in the theater, and he had to ask them to step aside.

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in 'Titanic' in 1997“I was going, ‘Hey, guys. Can you guys move?’ ” the actor recalled. “They were making fun of me. They said I looked like Charles Manson, which I kinda did. I had a little bowtie on and cummerbund, and I was like, 'Hey guys, please move.’ ”
The women refused, according to Hader, who took his revenge by spoiling the film’s ending for them. Of course, it’s safe to assume everybody seeing Titanic for the first time in 1997 knew that the titular ship sinks in the end. But the fates of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack and Kate Winslet’s Rose remained a mystery to first-time viewers.
“So, when they went in, as I tore the tickets, I was like, 'Enjoy the movie. The boat sinks at the end. Leo dies,’ ” Hader recalled. “And they were like, 'No, he doesn't.' I go, 'Yeah, you think he's asleep. But he's frozen.’ ”

While Hader said his manager was amused by the prank, it still cost him his job.
“He was like, 'Hey, Bill. I have to fire you,’ ” Hader said. “He loved it. Couldn't look me in the eye, though.”
