Beyoncé Admits She 'Did Not Want' Daughter Blue Ivy, 12, on Stage During Renaissance Tour: She 'Wanted It for Herself'

"We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes," the "Texas Hold 'Em" singer says

Beyoncé didn't initially want her older daughter on stage with her during her recent tour.

Speaking with GQ, the "Love on Top" singer, 43, shared that her three kids — Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Sir and Rumi, 7, whom she shares with husband JAY-Z — are often with her as she's working. "My kids come with me everywhere I go," the mom of three tells the outlet.

"They come to my office after school, and they are in the studio with me. They are in dance rehearsals. It's natural that they would learn my choreography," adds Beyoncé.

The singer continues, saying that her daughter Blue took an interest in being on stage with her mom when the Renaissance World Tour came around.

"Blue is an artist. She has great taste in music and fashion. She is a fantastic editor, painter and actress," raves the proud mom. "She has been creating characters since she was three. She's a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage."

"Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes."

After Beyoncé's latest tour kicked off in May 2023, Blue Ivy made her first surprise appearance at the May 26 show in Paris, executing some dazzling choreography to "My Power," which went viral and started a dance trend on TikTok.

Since then, Blue's grandmother Tina Knowles chatted with PEOPLE about how proud she is of her granddaughter for getting up on stage, noting that she "worked hard."

"Well, this is a heels family. You're trained early to walk in heels," Knowles-Lawson told PEOPLE exclusively in July 2023. "But yeah, she's having the time of her life, and I couldn't be more proud of her because she really worked hard."

"She is 11 years old, and she had one week to prepare, and she's just getting better and better," the Houston native said. "So I'm the proud grandma, always."
