Their children, who are now both in their 30s, have kept their lives relatively out of the spotlight though have both followed their parents' footsteps with careers in the arts. While Owen landed in front of the camera as a child actor, he later pivoted to directing. Greta went the music route and is a singer-songwriter in the indie-pop band Frankie Cosmos — celebrating a decade since the release of her debut album, Zentropy, in 2024.

After tying the knot in March 1989, Phoebe Cates and Kevin Kline grew their family just a few years later with the addition of their son Owen, who was born in October 1991. Three years later they welcomed daughter Greta — who rounded out their family of four in March 1994.
