Tripadvisor reveals best hotels in Australia

Now that the government has announced they don’t expect to see international borders opening until the middle of next year, domestic travel will be largely scratching that itch for Aussies raring for a getaway.

Tripadvisor has just released its annual list of best Aussie hotels, as rated by its travellers, and the top 10 includes destinations all over the country.

Unsurprisingly, Queensland features heavily in the edit, taking up six of the spots, including the top four, which is handy if you’re looking to fly north to escape the chill this winter.

Tripadvisor’s top 10 Aussie hotels in 2021:

Element on Coolum Beach, near Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, picked up the top spot with one traveller saying, “Fantastic apartments, fantastic location, fantastic week. We ended up extending our stay for a few extra nights as we were having the best time.”

The resort style accommodation includes access to their heated pool and sun lounge area and onsite restaurants and shops.

Brisbane’s Kingsford Smith Motel was next up and described as “more 5 star boutique hotel than motel,” by one visitor.

The location has a four and a half star average rating on Tripadvisor and would never be described as a motel from the images, however prices start at just $129 a night.

Further north,Beach Club on Hamilton Island offers adult-only, beachfront accommodation for a significantly higher nightly rate.

Meanwhile Korte's Resort in Rockhampton, Julie-Anna Inn in Bendigo, and Quest Ipswich Serviced Apartments, rounded out the top performing Queensland offerings.

Elsewhere in Australia, the Quest Sale Serviced Apartments in the Victorian town of Sale, came highly rated by former guests, as did Treasury On Collins in the heart of Melbourne.

Over in Hobart, MACq 01 Hotel comes very highly rated and has views looking out over the water, as does Sydney’s Ovolo Woolloomooloo, which one traveller said has, “Great rooms overlooking the harbour, super close to the city but at the same time away from the hustle and bustle.”

While it didn’t make the top 10 locally, Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat in Queensland proved a massive hit globally, and was voted the world’s most romantic hotel by Tripadvisor.

With six boutique, self contained suites hidden within the trees of the rainforest on the Sunshine Coast, this unique accommodation is hard to get your hands on, but highly recommended.

Also making an appearance on the world’s most romantic list is the Bli Bli House Riverside Retreat, another small boutique hotel on the Sunshine Coast with an old world Victorian style.
