The best celebrity Halloween costumes ever
Aussies love a chance at celebrating and dressing up and since we've adopted the American tradition of celebrating Halloween, it's given us all the extra chance to find the perfect single, couple or family costume and indulge in a little fun while helping the kids collect lollies or attending a fun-filled spooky party.
But the Americans still do it best, particularly the star-studded Halloween parties held in LA and New York. And the queen of Halloween has to be German model Heidi Klum.
Not only has she been hosting her infamous Halloween scare-fest for 20 years but she also puts extraordinary effort into her costumes often to the point that she is unrecognisable.
Unfortunately, she has cancelled her party again this year, for the second year in a row, citing that the ongoing pandemic makes it feel like a celebration is premature.
"With everything happening in the world right now, I feel like it‘s still too early for me to feel okay having a party," she told TooFab. "Like last year, I feel like it‘s insensitive of me to do that. I don’t want anyone to get hurt because we're having fun on my dime so I don’t want to do that."
But that doesn't mean she won't be dressing up for the occasion and is already planning another epic costume.
Here we look at the best ever celeb fancy dress costumes and maybe you'll get a little inspiration for what to plan for your next fancy dress party...
Heidi Klum
Since starting her parties in 2000, model Heidi has had to up her costume game over the years. Some of her best include Fiona from Shrek, terrifying alien, Jessica Rabbit, Michael Jackson from the Thriller video and a giant butterfly.
But what is it about Halloween that she loves so much? "When I moved to America, I immediately fell in love with Halloween and the spookiness of it," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "All that was missing was a fantastic party. It felt like a real opportunity for me."
"By me doing crazy, elaborate outfits as the host, my hope had always been that all my guests would follow. And it’s worked because, over the years, people have become increasingly more outrageous with their costumes," she added.
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
Neil and David love putting effort into their costumes, with or without their kids. But they looked fab as Westley and Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride.
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner
Joe has always had good Halloween costume game but when he and his girlfriend at the time (now wife) Sophie Turner decided to start couple costumes, they certainly won with this fabulous Gomez and Morticia Addams getup. Extra points for Thing on Joe's shoulder and Sophie having her scissors ready.
Beyonce
A little bit sexy and a little bit plastic fantastic as Beyonce pulls off retro Barbie, pristine in her box of course.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Justin and Jess take a family approach to their costume ideas having dressed as a family of Trolls and Toy Story characters in the past but we think this LEGO getup is perfect. "This Halloween was one hell of a block party! Happy Halloween from our LEGO family to yours," Jessica wrote on her Instagram post.
Kristen Bell
"When your daughter demands you BOTH be ELSA for Halloween...you GRIN AND FORKING BEAR IT," Kristen wrote on Instagram. Given that she played Elsa's sister Anna in the Disney hit Frozen, it's a munchkin sized hit in the face from her sassy kid!
Harry Styles
Who did it better – Elton or Harry in this fab sequinned baseball? It's hard to believe Harry has actually dissed the holiday in the past.
"Halloween is not fun! I’m sorry. I think, as a child, I used to leave it too late to decide on my costume, which meant I always turned up with the worst costume. So I have, kind of like... I have negative connotations with Halloween," he told BBC1 in 2019.
Was he forgetting that just the year before he hit it out of the park with this fab ensemble?
The Kardashians
Is it even Halloween without a Kardashian clan fancy dress party? Kim and Kanye led the way with their superhero outfits from the Batman franchise.
Lupita Nyong'o
We are totally bugging over Lupita's Clueless outfit. She makes a perfect Dionne as she fully commits to the 80s in a way that makes us want some of those fashions back! The 80s look is over? As if!
Cardi B
Cardi B is perfect as Disney villain Cruella de Vil and luckily it appears she's only nabbed one Dalmatian dog at this stage!
Melissa George
Our very own Melissa George has also enjoyed the American style Halloween parties attending Heidi Klum's party in 2010. She embraced everything American with her 50s diner waitress outfit.
