Fears for Aussie icon Bert Newton after hospital photo
Fans have taken to Instagram to wish Australian icon Bert Newton well after he was photographed in hospital.
The 82-year-old Gold Logie winning radio and TV presenter was snapped in a hospital bed wearing a mask by his loving wife, Patti Newton, who took to Instagram to keep his fans informed on his health.
“Bert’s been in hospital, all good,” Patti captioned the photo.
“He’s got a lot of living to do.”
Bert’s fans wished him a speedy recovery, with Julia Morris writing: “Sending all the love in the world...try get in a few mask smooches.”
Model Erin Holland wrote: “Get well soon lovely man. He’s got the best care in you Pat.”
TV presenter Jessica Rowe wrote: “Sending all of our love”, while Rove McManus said: “Best wishes to you all and to Bert especially for a speedy recovery.”
Patti’s Instagram is full of loved-up snaps of the pair, with the couple enjoying their 46th wedding anniversary just two weeks ago.
She also posts regular photos of the doting granddad with his six adorable grandchildren.
Bert spent time in hospital in 2011 after catching viral pneumonia and in 2012 he underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery.
Since then he has fought his way through numerous health complications.
In April 2017 he was rushed to Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital suffering from anaemia, with Patti staying by his side.
In July last year, an anonymous family friend told Woman’s Day Bert’s health was declining.
“He is very weak, very frail and he's ailing at an alarming rate,” they told the magazine.
“Patti doesn't even like to leave him alone for more than a couple of hours. She's been out of her mind with worry for weeks.”
Fan concern grew after the couple’s withdrawal from media events, with Bert and Patti noticeably absent from the Logies last year.
