An online dating website which only allows the finest looking specimens to join has dumped more than 3000 members for getting too ugly.

BeautifulPeople.com, which claims to be ‘the largest internet dating community exclusively for the beautiful’ ruthlessly culled its members because of weight gain and graceless aging.

The website, founded by husband and wife duo Genevieve and Greg Hodge, only allows members to join if there are voted in by existing members based on their photograph.

Mrs Hodge said they took “no pleasure in removing members” but it was “a necessary evil in order to maintain the beautiful community and our prized business model”.

Meanwhile, Mr Hodge said that letting “unattractive people populate the site would compromise the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded”.

But it’s not all doom and gloom for those who have been axed – the site has kindly offered the use of "beauty mentors" to get back on the beautiful bandwagon. Seriously.

Next was the UK, followed by Canada.

Worldwide, the website boasts more than 800,000 members.
