Joan Smalls’s Tricks For Getting Chiseled Features

Joan Smalls has the kind of cheekbones that make you hate or love her – depending on the kind of person you are.

And it’s no secret that a little shading and highlighting can go a long way when it comes to facial definition, but Joan has a few tricks up her sleeve that make her bone structure look even stronger than contouring can, if that’s humanly possible.

For Joan, chiseling her face isn’t about restructuring – it’s about amping up her favorite features.

She’s on top of this season’s nontouring trend, and you should be, too.

For this look, she used a dewy highlighter on the tops of the cheekbones, brow bones, nose, forehead, and cupid’s bow.

Instead of going all out on the shading, a swipe of bronzer below the cheekbones, jawbone, and at the hairline does the job.

This minimal contour looks fresh and allows her eyes to stand out.

Using yellows and greens to brighten the lids and play up her skin’s olive undertones, Joan gave her dark eyes dimension with lots of blending and bold lashes.

She tightlined her upper and lower waterlines in black and used lighter shadows on the inner edges to open her eyes up.

A perfect nude lip keeps the look fresh and subtle.

To finish it off, she pulled out pieces of baby hair from her high ponytail for a face-framing effect the adds even more definition to a sculpted face.
