Robyn Lawley On 'Torturing' Her Hair For Fashion And Her Worst Beauty Mistakes

When Robyn Lawley walks into the room for our interview, we're initially struck by her statuesque frame (she is 6ft 1 after all) and her luscious locks, which are pretty much coiffed to perfection.

However just minutes into our chat at The Langham hotel in Sydney, the 26-year-old, who is a mother to one-year-old daughter Ripley, reveals she's surprised she has any hair left after years spent "torturing" her brunette mane for fashion.

"Models’ hair would have to be the worst tortured hair ever, unless you’re an actor playing the same role every day," the 26-year-old, who is the ambassador for Pantene's new 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner, told Yahoo7 Lifestyle.

"Our hair is up, down, tonged, blow-dried, pin-rolled, mouse-drenched and then dried again. It’s just constantly being beaten."

When it comes to her worst beauty mistake, the mother-of-one, who is in Sydney for the InStyle Awards, embarrassing reveals an eyebrow faux pas we've all been through before.

"When I try to fill them in, I look like that blue Muppet – just straight up eyebrows," she said laughing.

"When I started to do it, I didn’t realise you weren’t meant to use black for dark eyebrows, you’re actually meant to do really light, taupe and no one ever told me that.

"That was an embarrassing night, there’s a lot of pictures from that night."

The plus-size model, who has appeared in Sports Illustrated and Vogue and has released her own swimwear collection, claims the Kadashians have their make-up routine down to a tee due to constant scrutiny on the red carpet.

"I learn a lot from the red carpet because there’s giant, bright lights and you’ve just got out of the car and there’s no time to fix anything, that’s why the Kardashians have got it so down because they’re constantly seeing everything they didn’t do or did do," she said.

For Lawley, her make-up look is always very minimalistic on night's out, however she soon realised the camera flashes can be very unforgiving on the red carpet.

"I don’t do a very good job of very dramatic make-up, I’m kind of bad at it actually and if I’ve ever done my make-up for red carpet they’re like ‘fresh-faced’ or ‘bare-faced’ and that’s me trying to do a lot of make-up for a while. I’m like: ’I thought this was enough?’" she said.

"I’ve realized with red carpet, when you think it’s enough you should probably put on another layer.

"For me personally I just can’t put that much on my skin so it has to be a make-up artist that does it to me because I wouldn’t be able to put that thick coverage on, it’s kind of full on man and in life you can see it."

While Lawley is only 26-years-old (turning 27 in June), she's already started to worry about the ageing process and claims she may have to "up her game" as she gets older.

"I moisturise, moisturise, moisturise as much as I can because I’m always so dry," she said.

"I love Dr Hauschka Rose Cream , I love SK-II stuff, I love coconut oil. I just keep it pretty basic with beauty because I just don’t have the time.

"With serums and stuff I’m probably going to have to up it because I’m getting older now."
