“The Bear”’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach Says He Gets Tired of Fans Always Calling Him 'Cousin': 'Don’t Have Much for You'

The actor also said he tries "to protect" costar Jeremy Allen White "when the fans get really excited"

The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach is growing somewhat tired of fan attention.

In a June 19 interview with The Guardian, the actor, 47, opened up about his interactions with fans following the success of the hit FX on Hulu drama, in which he plays Richard "Richie" Jerimovich – affectionately nicknamed "Cousin."

Reflecting on his career, which has seen him starring in shows like Girls, Andor, and The Punisher, he shared that he considers himself to have been "pretty successful" but notes that he has "never had anything connect like The Bear."

Moss-Bachrach continued to share his experience with fans, saying, "I was on top of a little mountain outside Kyoto and a Korean couple came up to me and were saying how much they love the show."

"I get a lot of comments. People yell 'Cousin!' at me all day," he continued. "Sometimes, you know, you’re just not having a great day. And it’s just like, 'I’m sorry, man, I don’t have much for you.'"

During the interview, the actor also spoke of his costar Jeremy Allen White’s rise to fame and stated that he isn’t jealous of the attention he receives for his appearance.

"I mean, I’m not even sure I can say I’m happy for him. Because he thinks it’s all quite ridiculous. So, no, I try to support him. And I basically try to protect him when the fans get really excited," he said.

This year, Moss-Bachrach won his first Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for his performance in the show, which follows the workers of a sandwich shop in Chicago.

He told the outlet that the award was "one of the most joyful nights of my life," but added that it also "stressed" him out.

"…because then we go back to make season three and we’ve won a bunch of awards, you start to feel like: 'Oh, f---.' I mean, then you really don’t want to be discovered to be a fraud. And then there’s pressure," the actor explained.

While Moss-Bachrach expressed conflicting feelings, he stated that, overall, he is appreciative of the success of the show.

"I mean, I wasn’t walking around with my head in my hands or anything like that. But like any job, at a certain point, it becomes routine. I’ve been an actor for, like, 25 years and there’s a reality that, for most actors and probably most people in the world, you’re doing a job because you need to feed your family," he said. "I feel very fortunate in a time where work is really tight in my business. I just feel very privileged."

The third season of Moss-Bachrach’s show will follow Carmy (White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie “as they do what it takes to elevate The Bear, their beef stand turned fine-dining establishment, to the highest level, all while doing their best just to stay in business," according to an official synopsis.

“It’s a losing battle every single day in the restaurant business,” the description continues. “Carmy pushes himself harder than ever, and demands excellence from his crew, who do their best to match his intensity.”
