Barbie Ferreira Left ‘Euphoria,’ but She’s Still Close With the Cast
Forget what you might have heard about Barbie Ferreira's sudden exit from Euphoria, or her limited season 2 screen time, or rumors that she had a falling out with showrunner Sam Levinson. It turns out, there's zero drama between Barbie and the Euphoria cast, and no hard feelings about her decision to leave the show. Mystery solved!
Barbie, who played Kat for two seasons on Euphoria, set the record straight during an appearance on The Viall Files podcast, telling hosts Nick Viall and Natalie Joy Viall that she's still close to her Euphoria cast members, including Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, and Sydney Sweeney—all three of whom are expected to return for season 3. “I saw Hunter the other day, I saw Maude the other day,” she said, adding that Sydney saw her perform in Cult of Love on Broadway. “They're all so busy. I mean, I've been out of town for, like, eight months, so I'm like, whoever is in town, we always try to see each other and they came to support the play, which was really sweet.”
Barbie also took the opportunity to clear up some rumors about her Euphoria exit, disputing reports that she once walked off set. “I never walked off set,” she said. “There was never anything like that. That was like, a whole thing. I absolutely never did that. You could ask the hundreds of people that were there every day.”
While she maintained that her departure from the show was a mutual decision, she did seem to hint at the fact that the storylines for Kat simply weren't there—whether because there was “nowhere to go” or because she just wasn't a focus of the show. “It wasn't just my choice,” she clarified. “I think after having a lot of conversation and after season 2, there was just nowhere to go. Instead of me lingering around for nine months, it was best for both of us that we just kind of ended it there.”
In a previous interview on Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard in 2023, Barbie revealed that she left Euphoria in part because she didn't want Kat to be “the fat best friend,” and that her interest in the character didn't align with Sam Levinson's. “Sam writes for things he relates to. I don't think he relates to Kat. I relate to Kat. So I had to follow my own path,” she said at the time.
Barbie is currently promoting her new film, Bob Trevino Likes It and has a lot of upcoming projects in the works, so I'd say her own path is looking pretty nice.
