Barber offering free haircuts in exchange for reading
Courtney Holmes is a local barber in Iowa, USA.
He’s giving back in a great way, giving out free haircuts to local kids – as long as they read to him while they’re sitting in the chair.
It’s part of an initiative called the Back to School Bash in town, Dubuque. The program is designed to help families get ready for the coming school year, which in the US starts this month.

“I just want to support kids reading,” Holmes said. According to the community’s reading coordinator, Caitlin Daniels, it’s a good way to help struggling readers improved their skills. “It’s great. All the kids, they want to have a good haircut to go back to school,” she told Associated Press. “They’re paying through reading.”
