David Beckham has hit back at criticism of his daughter’s use of a dummy.

The soccer superstar took to Instagram to respond to an article published by the Daily Mail claiming “parenting experts” warned that the use of a dummy risked the speech development of Harper, 4. They also stated her parents were putting her teeth at risk.

Beckham posted a screenshot of the article on Instagram, accompanied with a comment stating his daughter had been unwell and wanted her pacifier.

He wrote: “Why do people feel they have the right to criticize a parent about their own children without having any facts?

“Everybody who has children knows that when they aren’t feeling well or have a fever you do what comforts them best and most of the time it’s a pacifier so those who criticize think twice about what you say about other people’s children because actually you have no right to criticize me as a parent ...”

The father of four’s post has received over 16,000 comments and 500,000 likes. The majority of the feedback has been positive with some of the 10.1 million followers offering their support.

“Well said... why do people feel the need to criticize, they should mind their own business and worry about their own life. If a dummy works then we use it,” one wrote.

Another said, “@davidbeckham you're absolutely correct! NO ONE has the right or responsibility to comment and/or judge parents in how they raise their child as long as there is no harm.”
