When it comes to TikTok trends, some can be fleeting, while others get so out of hand they risk sparking more negative responses than anything else.

TikTok users in their thousands have been sharing their attempts - and tweaks - to the recipe, which basically sees you use an entire block of feta cheese as the sauce base for a delicious looking pasta dish.

One post by user Feel Good Foodie has received over 4.5M views, with plenty of people raving about the recipe in the comments as well.

“I tried that and HOLY COW it was so good!” was one enthusiastic response.

While another said: “That looks amazing”

However, it seems some people are also frustrated with either the recipe, or the fact it has become so popular, with some lamenting it’s the “10th time I’ve seen this video today”.

One person even said they didn’t like the look of it at all.

“What makes it worse is that it literally looks unsettling,” they said.

So why were stores specifically in Finland selling out of feta, you might ask? Well, it all has to do with where the recipe originated from.

A Finnish ‘food artist’ called Jenni Häyrinen claims to be the original creator of the recipe in 2019, taking to Instagram to stress she was the first person to use and coin #uunifetapasta - baked feta pasta.

She did however admit a fellow food blogger Tiiu Piret had also made a similar recipe around the same time but hers never went viral.

“Recipes are hardly ever totally original: it’s likely that someone has made a similar thing somewhere in the world,” she wrote.

“The point is that not all recipes go viral even if they are similar, #uunifetapasta did for which I am very grateful.”
