‘Bad Monkey’ Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+
“Bad Monkey” has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.
The series originally debuted on Apple’s streaming service back in August with the season finale airing in October. The first season was based on the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. There is a sequel novel to “Bad Monkey” titled “Razor Girl,” but according to an individual with knowledge of the production, Season 2 will not be based on that book. Bill Lawrence developed “Bad Monkey” for television with Vince Vaughn starring in the lead role.

“I hope that people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration for me as a writer,” Lawrence said. “To get to go on telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is very exciting. I’m very thankful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as the entire team that helps bring this show to life.”
Per the official logline, the series “tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who has been bounced from the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Keys. But after stumbling upon a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, he realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.”
“Since ‘Bad Monkey’ first made its debut on Apple TV+, this highly entertaining series became an instant fan-favorite,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Led by the incomparable Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, alongside a brilliant ensemble cast, we can’t wait for everyone to experience more hilarious, sun-soaked, beachy misadventures from the mind of Bill Lawrence as the temperature rises even further in the next chapter of this engrossing murder-mystery.”
Along with Vaughn, Season 1 of “Bad Monkey” also starred L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet, and Jodie Turner-Smith, with special guest star John Ortiz and guest stars Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn, and Charlotte Lawrence in her television debut.
Lawrence serves as showrunner and executive producer on “Bad Monkey” via Doozer Productions in addition to creating the series. Vaughn is an executive producer in addition to starring. Jeff Ingold and Lisa Katzer of Doozer also executive produce along with Matt Tarses and Marcos Siega. Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence is under an overall deal, is the studio.
“Bad Monkey” is the third show that Lawrence has done with Apple TV+. He previously co-created the hit comedy “Ted Lasso” and currently has “Shrinking,” which just aired its second season and has already been renewed for a third.
