Warning! Bad Boys spoilers ahead.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the franchise's fourth installment starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, was a huge hit.

The film, which hit theaters in June 2024 and is now streaming on Netflix, made more than $400 million globally and garnered a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Bad Boys: Ride or Die also got a ringing endorsement from Stephen King, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "That was a lot of fun. Martin Lawrence always makes me laugh."

The fourth movie follows the "Bad Boys" of the Miami Police Department, Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, who learn that their former captain, Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano), was allegedly working with drug cartels for years. Determined to prove Howard's innocence, Lowrey and Burnett team up to uncover a massive conspiracy within the police force.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die thoroughly entertained fans and critics, so will there be a Bad Boys 5? Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly, "We'll have to see."

He added: "You know I never say never, but it also has to make sense. If the fans ask for it, you know we could be back."

Here's everything Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have said about returning for Bad Boys 5.

A fifth installment of the Bad Boys franchise has not been confirmed. However, it's important to note that Bad Boys: Ride or Die was not confirmed until 2023 — three years after the third movie premiered.

In 2022, Lawrence told Ebony that he and Smith had "at least" one more Bad Boys flick in the pipeline, and in 2023, director Adil El Arbi hinted at taking Lowrey and Burnett overseas if Bad Boys 5 is greenlit.

"It's got to go international. We've not seen the Bad Boys in London or in Paris or in Asia. So, we're ready for it," he told Screen Rant.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly in June 2024, Smith called playing Mike Lowrey "an absolute joy," and showed interest in reprising his role for a fifth film as long as there's a story to tell.

"I never wanted to be one of those dudes who make sequels just because people will go [see it]," he said. "I want to make them because there is something to say and the characters have a place that they're developing to that will be interesting and fun to watch and maybe even a little helpful."

Lawrence is a true ride-or-die when it comes to the Bad Boys franchise.

"I’m going to carry on as long as my brother carries on,” Lawrence told Empire of Smith in August 2024. “It’ll be very hard to get rid of me."

In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the actor expressed a similar loyalty to the fan base.

"Will and I have a great time working together, so as long as the fans want it and the demand is there, I’ll keep trying to give them what they want," Lawrence said.

At the end of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Lowrey and Burnett, with the help of Mike's son Armando Aretas (Jacob Scipio), determine that former special ops soldier James McGrath (Eric Dane) is responsible for trying to frame the late Captain Howard for corruption related to the cartel. They also discover that Miami District Attorney Adam Lockwood (Ioan Gruffudd) is aiding McGrath and allowing the cartel to smuggle drugs across the border in exchange for intel on terrorist threats to the United States.

With the Bad Boys hot on his trail, McGrath kidnaps Lowrey's wife Christine (Melanie Liburd) and Captain Howard's granddaughter Callie (Quinn Hemphill) and takes them to an abandoned marine park — home to a giant albino alligator named Duke.

A massive firefight ensues and Lowrey experiences a panic attack, a symptom of his guilt regarding the death of Howard. Burnett slaps him back to reality — a scene many fans believe is a nod to Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022.

Lockwood ultimately gets eaten by Duke, and the action concludes on the beach, where McGrath has a gun pointed at Lowrey's wife and Burnett. He tells Lowrey that he must choose who lives and who dies. So, Lowrey is forced to make a bold choice and shoots Burnett in his bulletproof vest — a move that distracts McGrath long enough for Lowrey to shoot the former soldier.

Meanwhile, Armando, who is technically a wanted fugitive, manages to get Callie to safety. Out of gratitude, Callie's mother, a U.S. Marshall, allows him to get in a boat, which he takes south to Cuba.
