The first rose ceremony on Bachelor In Paradise couldn’t proceed without a hiccup when outspoken contestant Cat Henesey-Smith decided to make a shock exit.

The 25-year-old unexpectedly walked out when neither Richie Strahan or Nathan Favro gave her a rose, and she then ultimately left the Fijian island altogether, branding her experience on the show as “a big fat ugly waste of my time”.

“I don’t get it. I’m trying to be so genuine, trying to meet someone,” she sobbed while speaking to co-star Alisha Aitken-Radburn in the ladies’ bathroom as cameramen waited outside.

“I don’t understand why people don’t like me. I don’t get it, what’s wrong with me? I just did not see that happening.”

Cat certainly didn’t expect she’d be going home so soon.

“I don’t get it, he chose another girl over me,” she said, referring to Richie choosing Cass. “It’s embarrassing.”

Cat then let producers in on her raw heartache, as she cried and admitted the dating game can be quite tough at times.

“I don’t know what it is,” she confessed.

“I just feel like I can never meet anyone. I don’t know why a guy wouldn’t want a girl who’s confident and outgoing and funny. I didn’t think that I’d go on the first night. Like I just feel so unloved and so unwanted right now.”

It seems the feelings of rejection then led to Cat having a more sour view of the Bachelor In Paradise experience.

“I just think Paradise is bulls**t,” she said. “Like it was a big fat ugly waste of my time and I’m done.”

Host Osher Gunsberg informed the rest of the contestants that Cat had chosen to leave the island, before Vanessa Sunshine was also sent home when she didn’t receive a rose from Bill Goldsmith.
