Ayo Edebiri investigates celebrity cult in tense “Opus” trailer: 'What the f--- is this?'
A pop singer's invite for an exclusive listening party goes sideways for "The Bear" Emmy winner.
"What the f--- is this?!" Great question, Murray Bartlett. It's Opus, the upcoming A24 horror film starring The Bear Emmy winner and Bottoms funny gal Ayo Edebiri.
The first trailer for the film, directed by Mark Anthony Green, shows Edebiri in the role of Ariel, a young magazine writer who finds herself investigating a celebrity cult. She unexpectedly receives a coveted invite to attend and cover the listening party for the next album from Moretti (John Malkovitch), an iconic pop singer who disappeared from the public limelight for 30 years but is now touting a comeback.
"Mr. Moretti will be playing the greatest album of modern times...future times, all the times, really," Tony Hale's shaggy character says.

Joining a gathering of Moretti's sycophants and intoxicated journalists for a weekend-long event at his compound, Ariel travels with her colleague (played by Bartlett) on a private jet with blacked-out windows, a pilot that doesn't speak, and a refrigerator stocked with only seltzer and yak milk. Upon arrival, things get even weirder. She's asked to trim her "lady garden" because Moretti requires everyone to be shaved, and she can't go running without one of Moretti's knife-wielding zealots (Amber Midthunder) following her.
Also appearing in Opus are Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets), Young Mazino (The Last of Us), Stephanie Suganami (Power Book II: Ghost), and Tatanka Means (Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1).

Meanwhile, the cult of Edebiri continues. After blowing up from her role on The Bear, she broadened her film repertoire with Bottoms, Theater Camp, Inside Out 2, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Opus makes its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Jan. 27. Watch the trailer above.
