Aussies keen to travel overseas as soon as December
Despite Australia’s travel ban being extended until at least December 17, it seems Aussies are hopeful they may yet be able to organise a trip beyond our shores for 2021.
According to recent travel data from Skyscanner, there has even been a 17 per cent increase in searches for travel as soon as December 2020, indicating many believe the ban will not be extended any further.
During the first week of September, January 2021 was the most searched for month by Aussie travellers, suggesting the desire for an overseas trip as soon as it’s possible.
Normally international destinations like Tokyo, Bali, and London dominate the search trends during this time of year, and while they still feature in the top ten, it’s clear more people are also looking at domestic destinations just in case.
London remains the number one searched destination for 2021, as it was during 2019, with Tokyo coming in second.
In terms of domestic holidays the most popular Aussie destination being booked is Broome in Western Australia.
Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Cairns are also popular for when boarder restrictions ease.

He says it will be an interesting travel year in 2021 with both international and domestic destinations dominating the searches.
“London, a mainstay for travelling Australians and the most booked destination for travel in 2021 affirms the affinity between UK and Australia and suggests friends and families are looking to be reunited as soon as possible,” he adds.
