Fans were left devastated following the news that One Direction singer Liam Payne was found dead after falling from a balcony at a hotel in Argentina. People who have been fans of the star have flocked to social media to share tributes, with many left heartbroken.

A manager from Casa Sur Hotel called emergency services claiming they had a "guest who is overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol" before saying, "He's destroying the entire room and, well, we need you to send someone, please." Alberto Crescenti, head of the Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services later revealed Liam fell around "14 metres", suffering "very serious injuries incompatible with life".

The overwhelming reaction to Liam's death on social media has been that of shock and sadness. However, there is a small portion of the internet mocking the horrific news, including a group of Sydney schoolgirls.

The group took to TikTok to share a video that appears to be making fun of the One Direction singer's death.

In the footage, one girl is heard saying, "Liam Payne died!" Another then says, "That's a funny joke."

They then shared another clip with the caption, "POV: Liam Payne," in which one of the girls pretends to jump off a balcony and is then seen lying on some stairs below, pretending to be dead.

The video was shared to The Virtual Hangout Facebook group, an advice and support group, with many slamming the girls' actions.

"That's absolutely disgusting behaviour I reported them a few times. Hopefully it gets removed," one user said.

"Some people have absolutely no respect for human life and it shows," another added.

"That's just disgusting and unnecessary," a third added.

"It's heartbreaking to see such disrespect," someone else wrote on TikTok.

"No one deserves to be mocked, especially during such a tragic time," another said.

On Friday morning, it was revealed that Liam died from multiple injuries sustained in the fall, which led to "internal and external haemorrhaging", and a fractured skull.

"According to the emergency medical team sent to the scene he had a fracture in the base of his skull, extremely serious injuries," Alberto Crescenti said, saying that Liam was dead when paramedics arrived on scene.

"Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life."

Police have not yet released further conclusive evidence regarding the circumstances of Liam's fall, and tests are now taking place to see if the singer had consumed drugs and alcohol. Police have said they found Liam's room in "complete disarray", with prosecutors saying on Thursday that they were treating the case as a "suspicious death" due to evidence collected on the scene that indicated Liam was going through "some kind of substance abuse outbreak" at the time of his death.

The Argentine public prosecutor's office on Thursday said: "Everything indicates that the musician was alone" when the fall occurred.
