Aussies strip off to celebrate Naked Gardening Day

While May the fourth is celebrated by Star Wars fans the world over, it’s also a special day for the green thumbs amongst us.

May 4 is World Naked Gardening Day, and one of Australia’s most recognisable gardeners, Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis, led the charge on social media.

A string of cheeky snaps soon flowed in, including one from Sabrina Campbell who shared a beautiful shot of herself amongst a bed of cosmos and marigold flowers.

A very keen gardener, she tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “I've been gardening since I was a teenager and love being in nature.”

“The human body is an amazing creation. So taking part in Naked Gardening Day for me is to celebrate all bodies, not just those that conform to the commonly portrayed superficial, unrealistic and unobtainable standards of advertising, social media and the press.”

Adelaide businessman The Pool Man – who sees many beautiful, poolside gardens in his profession, also got in on the action – as did Wollongong pair Karlie and Marc, who posed for a snap amongst a forest of indoor plants.

“I love the way that gardening allows us to create our own little oasis, wherever in the world we may live,” Karlie tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

“I found Naked Gardening Day to be so full of fun, body positivity and sharing from all ages. It inspired me to join the fun!

“I guess the day and the way it brought people together really seemed to capture the way gardening makes you feel peaceful, comfortable and happy in yourself.”

Karlie and Marc were shot by local photographer Sam St Jon, and are being featured in her current series of artistic works.
