An Aussie woman has pulled off what may be the country’s cheesiest proposal - popping the question with a $9,000 Domino’s engagement ring.
Jasmine Ireland gave her partner a pizza her heart on Sunday, interrupting his soccer game to get down on one knee and ask him to spend the rest of his life with her.
Making the moment extra special - for pizza lovers that is - is the fact that Jasmine was the lucky winner of the Domino’s $9k engagement ring competition in February and used the one-of-a-kind ring to start the rest of her life with her partner.
Jasmine hails from Adelaide where she lives with now-fiance Jamie and their seven-month-old son Jarvis.
Jasmine got Jamie’s soccer teammates on board to pull off the surprise proposal, waiting until he scored a goal before she came onto the field, got down on one knee (in white jeans no less!) and asked him to marry her.
In her winning video submission, Jasmine explained the duo met two years ago while playing soccer, and that pizza had always played a big part in their relationship.
“We met playing club soccer and we had a bet that whoever got a goal, the other one had to shout pizza,” she said, adding that she planned to wait for his first goal of this year’s season before popping the question with the ring.
Waiting for International Woman’s Day, and a leap year, to flip the gendered proposal narrative on its head Jasmine pulled off the proposal without a hitch.
With celebratory pizza for the whole team, and a besotted, if blindsided, groom-to-be, the adorable proposal was the pinnacle of pizza-inspired romance.
The hand-crafted ring looks good enough to eat with its 18-karat yellow and white gold base and a ‘topping’ of diamond ‘cheese’ and ‘pepperoni’ rubies. But please, resist the urge to take a bite.
While the pizzas are notoriously affordable, Domino’s first venture into engagement jewellery is valued at a piping hot $9,000 with a total diamond weight of more than one carat.
When it comes to the couple’s big day, Domino’s has promised they will provide the newlyweds and their guests with a wedding feast that Jasmine and Jamie are sure to be delighted with.
