The Asian Way to Make Tuna Salad 10x Better

Tuna salad and I have a solid lunch relationship. It's creamy, savory and easy to whip up when I need a satisfying meal in a hurry. But after the tenth sandwich, even I need a break. Sometimes, I want my lunch to surprise me, not feel like the same old same old.

Tuna salad is a classic dish made by combining canned tuna with mayonnaise and ingredients like celery, onions, pickles and seasonings for added flavor and texture. It’s versatile and can be served in sandwiches, wraps, crackers or on a salad. It's popular because it is simple, affordable and nutritious—tuna is packed with protein and omega-3 fatty acids. It’s a quick, no-fuss option that works for an easy, delicious lunch.

But if you're like me and ready to change things up, food content duo @saltnpiipa have a great way to update that old tuna salad recipe and it looks amazing!

The Asian Tuna Salad Recipe That Makes Lunch More Exciting

The father-son team behind @saltnpiipa shared their recipe and it's packed with great stuff. To make it, you need tuna, soy sauce and Kewpie mayo, the Japanese mayonnaise known for its rich, creamy texture and umami-packed flavor. It’s tangier, slightly sweeter and more savory than standard mayonnaise. If you can't find Kewpie mayo, your favorite mayo will also work in this recipe.

Mix those ingredients in a bowl with sesame oil and a dash of black pepper. If you want your tuna salad to be a bit spicy, add some sriracha. Next, add thinly sliced celery, chopped green onions and shaved carrots. Mix everything thoroughly.

Finally, add some crushed seaweed and some sesame seeds. Saltnpiipa suggest serving the tuna salad with more nori sheets for wrapping, but this tuna salad would also be great on bread, with crackers or on top of a bed of greens.
