Two weeks after photos of actress Lily James kissing married co-star Dominic West were released, a source has suggested the star was caught flirting with her Rebecca co-star Armie Hammer, before he split with wife Elizabeth Chambers.
Sources have revealed Armie and Elizabeth's marriage went south after she found "passionate texts and letters" from a mystery woman who signed off as Adeline, according to Daily Mail.
At the same time as the texts were found, Armie was shooting Rebecca, based on the Daphne Du Maurier novel, with Lily James, with claims the actress was referred to as Adeline on the movie call sheets and on her trailer as her character had no first name.
Adeline is the name of a character in another Daphne Du Maurier book.
Sources told the publication that Lily appeared to be ‘flirting’ with Armie, the married father-of-two.
Insiders claim it was around this time that Lily's relationship with The Crown actor Matt Smith was cooling off and she seemed to be "smitten" with Armie from the moment they met.
One source said: "She was not subtle. And he was into it, no doubt about it. She was touching him constantly, giving him long smouldering looks."
They continued: "While he was filming, he chose to have weeks away in the English countryside instead of returning to see his family who were also in the UK. This is all very typical of him."
Elizabeth was unsurprisingly "devastated" when she found the text messages with the find reportedly sparking the downward spiral of the couple's 10-year marriage.
The pair tried to work on the marriage, attending couple's therapy and even had plans to renew their vows.
However, the coronavirus pandemic then struck in the midst of their therapy sessions and they decided to quarantine in the Cayman Islands where Armie had lived for some time as a child.
The actor reportedly didn't like the close quarters and after a few months, decided to go home to Los Angeles.
But Armie instead went to Miami and reportedly accidentally sent his wife a sexually explicit text that she knew wasn't meant for her, the source claims.
In July, they announced their split, writing: "Thirteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents.
"It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage.
"As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority.
"We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we’re asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time."
On the divorce papers, the couple each listed a different separation date with Armie claiming they split in January and Elizabeth saying it was July.
Armie has requested joint custody of the children, however, Elizabeth filed for sole physical custody.
The actor claims he hasn't seen his children since July with legal papers stating: "As the coronavirus pandemic worsened in the United States, Elizabeth and Armie elected to stay with their children temporarily in the Cayman Islands where the pandemic appeared to be under greater control.
"Armie returned to Los Angeles this past July, with a promise from Elizabeth that she and the children would follow shortly thereafter.
"To date, however, Elizabeth and the children remain in the Cayman Islands and Armie has not seen the children in several months now."
Sources tell Daily Mail that Elizabeth wants to stay in the Cayman Islands because "it's Covid free, the children can have their friends to play with and are in physical school living a normal life. Life in LA would be bad for them".
Lily James and Dominic West
Meanwhile, Lily James has been left "mortified" after the photos of herself and Dominic West were released, only for him to pose for photos with his wife saying their marriage is "strong" and they're "very much still together".
A source close to Lily told E! News: "She's mortified and embarrassed by the entire thing."
"She was shocked when she saw the photos and his story that he is happily married."
The insider added: "She wants it all to go away and is just laying low hoping it will pass quickly."
