Yahoo Lifestyle Ariana Grande Goes for Old Hollywood Glamour in Belted Dress Alongside Mom Joan at the Golden Globes First-time Nominee Luncheon
Ariana Grande joined a bevy of stars for the Golden Globes First-time Nominees Luncheon on Tuesday in Los Angeles alongside her mother, Joan Grande. The actress and singer earned her first Golden Globe Award nomination for her performance in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked,” directed by Jon M. Chu.
Ariana Grande wore a retro-inspired satin midi dress with a belted waist evocative of Christian Dior’s later 1950s styles and Old Hollywood glamour. Grande’s mother opted for the opposite end of the color spectrum, wearing an all-black ensemble with intricate embroidery.

Throughout her time promoting “Wicked,” Grande gravitated toward the popular method-dressing trend, working alongside stylist Mimi Cuttrell for several of her “Wicked”-inspired looks. As such, Grande’s wardrobe for her take on method dressing consists of several pink pieces, a sartorial homage to her character Glinda.
For both the Sydney and New York City premieres of “Wicked,” Grande wore bright pink, overtly feminine looks. The “Positions” singer’s Sydney gown seemed wholly inspired by Billie Burke’s own Glinda costume from “The Wizard of Oz,” designed by Adrian Adolph Greenburg (known mononymously as Adrian). Grande’s custom Sydney gown was designed by Vivienne Westwood.
For the New York City premiere of the film, Grande favored a strappless bubblegum pink Louis Vuitton look, which featured a sweetheart neckline and peplum detailing at the waist. Grande attended several events alongside costar Cynthia Erivo, who’s also followed suit with method-dressing.
Erivo previously wore designs courtesy of Schiaparelli, Mugler and more for “Wicked”-related events. The Broadway star often collaborates with stylist Jason Bolden on her various looks.
“Wicked” earned four 2025 Golden Globe Award nominations on Dec. 9. Erivo was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Grande earned a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. The film was also nominated for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy and the Cinematic Box Office Achievement Award.
