Yahoo Lifestyle Ariana Grande And Cynthia Erivo's "Wicked" Audition Tapes Are Going Viral
As Wicked continues to soar to the top of the box office, a clip of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's auditions for the movie musical is making the rounds.
If you've been keeping up with the Wicked press cycle, you've likely heard tidbits from the stars over how they were cast. Ariana had to audition five times to play Glinda and came in with no makeup to shed her pop star persona. As for Cynthia, she said that her audition for Elphaba took three hours.
Well, you can now put audio and visuals to that scene! A clip from Peacock's Defying Gravity: The Curtain Rises on Wicked shows Cynthia and Ariana singing "Defying Gravity" and "Popular," respectively, in 2021.

"The audition for me was three hours of me singing and acting with two other actresses. It was a pretty emotional day. I guess I threw everything into that audition," Cynthia says in a voiceover of her singing with a literal broom.

As for Ariana, she said of her experience, "I had the opposite experience. I stalked [producer] Marc Platt for 10 years, wondering, when would an audition be possible? As I got wind that it was coming closer and closer, I went to voice lessons and acting lessons every day. I was trying to get ready because it's so different to what I usually sing. I remember by the end of my final test, my eyelashes were nowhere where they should be."
