Arby's Changes Menu Items' Names to Sound Healthier to 'Cheat' New Years Resolutions

For a week in January, Arby's is changing the name of some of its popular items to sound more "healthy" as it hopes to help customers indulge in a cheat day in peace

Arby's.

Arby's has your back if you want to kick your New Year's resolution to the curb early and indulge in a cheat day.

For a short time this month, the fast-food sandwich chain will offer customers a lighthearted way to indulge by putting a creative twist on its menu.

For a week in mid-January — specifically from Jan. 13 to Jan. 17, which, as the company points out, is the week most people break their New Year's resolutions — Arby's will roll out its "New Year, Same You" menu, designed especially so customers can indulge in their cheat day choices in peace.

During this special promotional exercise, Arby's will temporarily rename some of its more popular menu items, dressing them up in a health-conscious facade.

For example, the classic Double Beef 'N Cheddar sandwich will masquerade as the "Salad with Dressing" for the week, while the Jamocha Shake will be rebranded as a "Green Smoothie." Even the Crinkle Fries will be included in the promotion for the week, going as "Steamed Vegetables" for the period of the promotion.

At participating locations across the country, customers will be able to approach the counter and confidently order a "Salad with Dressing" (in line with their health-centric New Year's resolutions), only to walk away with a Double Beef 'N Cheddar tucked away safely in their bag — without any side-eye from other patrons, friends or family. Even their receipt will read with the name of their faux-healthy choice — building a delicious facade.

While not every fast food company is hopping on the train of helping their customers cheat their resolutions like Arby's, plenty of other companies are offering promotional deals for their items during this start of the year season to get customers into their stores.

Wendy’s, for example, has a new deal for the new year.

The company announced on Jan. 6 that — for a limited time only — hungry customers will be able to score a 2 for $7 deal on four of its fan-favorite items. This bargain applies to the Classic Chicken Sandwich, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Dave’s Single and the 10-piece chicken nuggets (crispy or spicy).

The offer will end on March 2, giving fans less than eight weeks to score some of the savings.

Also on the New Year's deals list: On Jan. 7, McDonald’s partnered with wrestler-turned-actor John Cena and announced that it was launching a new McValue menu. The McValue menu will include a $5 Meal Deal and several other in-app offers. On every Friday in 2025, app users can claim a free medium fries with any purchase of $1.
