Anna Kendrick turned to Pitch Perfect costar Brittany Snow for directing advice.

While on the Today show Monday, Oct. 7, Kendrick told host Hoda Kotb that Snow was one of the people she reached out to before making her directorial debut with Woman of the Hour, in which she also stars.

The Oscar-nominated actress admitted it was "really scary to take that step" into the director's chair for the true-crime thriller, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.

"I did, I called Brittany Snow. I feel very, very lucky and grateful that the Pitch Perfect girls, we're really family in the truest sense of the word. We're like, 'We didn't choose each other, but we're connected for life,' " said Kendrick, 39.

She continued, "The day before we actually started filming, I was really — my confidence was so low. And I called Brittany, and I was expecting a really sugary-sweet pep talk 'cause that's kinda who she is. And she's just went, 'Anna, you're gonna get on set and you're gonna know what to do.' I was like, 'Why are you talking to me like me? That is so rude.' But it was also exactly what I needed to hear."

"She kinda gave me a taste of my own medicine," Kendrick added.

Snow, 38, made her directorial debut with Parachute, a drama about disordered eating and body image issues that starred Courtney Eaton and Thomas Mann.

The star previously told PEOPLE of making the film, which debuted at the 2023 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, "Everyone had a personal experience they brought to the table, and it was fulfilling to intertwine those individual experiences within the story. It became so many people’s movie, and that’s exactly what I wanted."

“Elizabeth Banks came as a first-time female director and directed Pitch 2, and that just went gangbusters. And I think we, all of us girls, kind of watched that and went, ‘Huh,’ ” Wilson says. “It was inspiring to us that we could get out there and do it."
