Angelina Jolie Embraces Quiet Luxury in All-black Ensemble for ‘Maria’ New York Screening

Angelina Jolie revived the quiet luxury trend on Wednesday at a screening of “Maria” in New York. The actress was accompanied by the film’s director, Pablo Larraín.

Jolie’s minimalist ensemble consisted of a black wool coat, leather pumps and gold jewelry, including a gold ball necklace and matching earrings. Smoked-out winged eyeliner topped off her look.

Jolie plays the titular soprano in “Maria,” which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August. Set in 1970s Paris, the biopic follows the final years of opera singer Maria Callas’ life.

At the film’s premiere at the 2024 AFI Fest last month, Jolie made a departure from her typically straight tresses, opting for beachy curls to the red carpet. The actress wore a sleeveless champagne satin dress, pairing it with a black cape, metallic heels and a bold red lip.

Earlier this year, WWD exclusively revealed Jolie as Tom Ford Beauty’s first celebrity spokesmodel. On Tuesday, the brand debuted its latest campaign starring Jolie, where she models the shade 16 Scarlet Rouge from Tom Ford Beauty’s Runway Lip Color collection.

“What I look for most in a beauty product is quality. I personally wear Scarlet Rouge by Tom Ford because of its rich color and texture. A perfect red lip needs little else,” Jolie told WWD via email.

After having a major moment in 2023, quiet luxury styling is here to stay this year, with labels like Dior, Carolina Herrera and Miu Miu showcasing refined and elevated basics. The minimalist aesthetic replaces ostentatious displays with subtle high-end staples.
