Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes aimed to follow in Tom Brady and Giselle Bündchen’s footsteps.

On a recent episode of the Amy & T.J. podcast, the pair, whose relationship was leaked before the public learned of their respective marriages ending, revealed that they hoped to announce their divorces from their former spouses once everything was finalized. They noted that their blueprint for the plan was Brady and Bündchen, who they said “did it well.”

“That was the model I was trying to follow,” Robach, 51, explained. “I was thinking to myself, ‘Before I announce it to everyone, including some of my friends, I want to have the divorce actually already be filed in the court so that the messiness is over. I'm gonna deal with [it] personally, and then by the time I announce it, things are cool and calm, and we're all good.’ And that was my goal.”

“That was our goal,” Holmes, 47, added.

Robach noted that “when you announce to people that you're breaking up, people usually wanna weigh in,” and she wanted to avoid external noise in the process.

“Once you already say, ‘Hey, guys, it's a done deal,’ there's no room for discussion,” she continued. “And I think by the time you get to that point, you've already made your mind up, and you don't really want to hear what everyone else thinks about it. And so that makes a lot of sense to me.”

Brady, 47, and Bündchen, 44, finalized their divorce in October 2022 on the same day that sources confirmed to PEOPLE that they planned to file for divorce. Despite months of speculation, the couple hadn’t commented on the status of their relationship until terms were already agreed on legally.

"The settlement is all worked out," a source told PEOPLE at the time. "They've been working on the terms this whole time."

Days later, Brady spoke openly about his divorce from Bündchen on his Sirius XM show Let's Go!

"Obviously, the good news is it's a very amicable situation and I'm really focused on two things, taking care of my family and certainly my children, and secondly, doing the best job I can to win football games," he said to his audience.

The former NFL quarterback added that having their divorce "play out in front of a lot of people" was difficult.

In March 2023, the model also addressed the state of her relationship with Brady in her Vanity Fair cover story.

"We're not playing against each other," she said. "We are a team and that's beautiful. I look back and I have no regrets. I loved every bit of it."
