Amy Aniobi’s SuperSpecial Offers $100K Grant To Fantasy Writers

SuperSpecial, the production company set up by Insecure and Survival of the Thickest exec producer Amy Aniobi, is moving into new worlds.

The company is offering $100,000 in grants to five fantasy writers as part of a new program.

It has launched The Fellowship, a creative accelerator for under-represented writers, in association with Loot, a fantasy universe platform.

The year-long program is designed to help five writers fund fantasy novellas that can work on Loot, as well as potentially be turned into television series and films by SuperSpecial. Each writer will maintain underlying ownership of their created material and all projects will be produced by Amy Aniobi and Aanch Khaneja via SuperSpecial and Devon Dolan. Timshel will serve as a creative advisor on behalf of Loot.

“Storytelling comes in many forms, and we at SuperSpecial are so excited to get to explore a new platform with the Loot community. Part of our aim as a company has been to expand the scope of what TV and feature writers can do and can be hired to do. With this first foray into grant-based fiction writing and worldbuilding, we hope to continue the mission for SuperSpecial to be known as a creative team ready to service any industry’s storytelling needs,” said Amy Aniobi.

The projects include:

Trio of Light: Race to Ky-Rek by Ace Brown
The first in a planned series, Jy-Ohna, a human-android hybrid, teams with her closest friend and her biggest rival to find her missing father and a long-forgotten tome full of spells and danger, all in the hope to halt the ever-growing power of The Sect, a vicious cabal of magic wielders, as they threaten the lands of Morphelk.

Odinala by Chisom Chieke and Chidera Chieke

The Blue-Spotted Girl of Sanbu by Quincy Cho
On a quaint inlet with echoes of South Korea’s heritage, two orphaned sisters grapple with their troubled past and a growing supernatural threat.
