Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon were reduced to tears on Today this morning while speaking with the creator of a touching viral video.

A pub choir, now a ‘couch’ choir, released a heartwarming video of individual members performing ‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’ by the Carpenters, and it proved too much for even veteran journalists, as Karl and Ally got emotional while listening.

The pair discussed the video with director Astrid Jorgensen and after playing it a second time, Ally choked up while revealing that the video had previously reduced her to tears.

“You just know that this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better,” she said.

“I don’t know, I watched it last night and I cried, I thought I’d be alright today, but…”

Karl was quick to comfort his co-host, saying: “You’re ok you can cry.”

“This is part of what we’re feeling as a society right,” he continued, before being cut off by his own emotions.

“And us as Australians, when I see that, I just see all the faces, I see everyone going through the same thing um –”

The pair took a moment to compose themselves, with Karl saying he ‘just completely lost it’, and thanking the choir for sharing the sweet video.

“I just lost it, just completely lost it I’m so sorry that really got me, and us,” he said, before thanking the choir director for her contribution to the effort to stay united under social distancing.

“Thank you for giving us this sense of community,” He said. “Thanks for giving us something to smile about.”

The touching moment had fans flooding social media with messages of support and love for the pair.

“Love, love, love this,” one wrote. “So heartwarming.”

“Class,” another described it. “Great moment on the Today Show.”

The video released by Pub Choir, has been viewed over one million times across the internet.

The video was made up of more than 1000 people from 18 countries and has been a light touch in an increasingly difficult time, and widespread closures are enforced across the nation.
