America Has Spoken: These Are The Worst Fast Food Locations In The Country
You might think that every McDonald's location functions the same with a menu that tastes the same, but it's not exactly the case. There are a number of factors that differentiate a fast food restaurant. Some are well-oiled machines; others are total disasters.
Fortunately, Fast Company did the heavy lifting for all of us Big Mac and Crunchwrap Supreme connoisseurs, and rounded up the best and worst McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, and Taco Bell locations across the country. The outlet analyzed Google Maps reviews from every single location in the U.S. and used a combination of the average customer review score and the number of reviews customers left to comprise its ranking.
Now, you'll never have to suffer through a rude drive-thru employee or soggy chicken fingers again.
McDonald's
The Micky D's location at 2130 Main Street in Eagle Pass, Texas, landed the coveted number one spot. It got a total of 194 reviews, a 4.25 score, and a 8.63 weighted score. One customer raved about the "incredible interior design." There is amble space for customers to relax and enjoy their food, as well as ordering machines so you can get your chicken nuggets without even talking to an employee. Ah, an introvert's dream!
A Calexico, California, location (at 720 Imperial Avenue) and New Hyde Park, New York, location (at 2045 Jericho Turnpike) tied for second place with a 4.22 score and 8.43 weighted score. The California location, however, had 3,400 reviews, while New York had just 1,822.
"If you’re going to eat McDonald’s, you might as well do it in a mansion," one reviewer wrote of the New York location. "I’ve driven by the McDonald’s Mansion a few times over the years and finally decided to stop by and eat in." It's in an actual converted house and features a 24-hour drive-thru.
10207 Lakewood Boulevard in Downey California and 101 S. Expressway in Brownsville, Texas tied for third.
Here's the real tea: the McDonald's at 10042 South Zarzamora Street in San Antonio, Texas, earned the top spot on the "worst" list with a 1.37 rating. "Food was dried out, old, and full of oil," one person wrote of the location. "How one manages to do that? I'm not sure but it was just bad."
Burger King
Burger King’s most-loved location is at 3040 Ella Boulevard in Houston, Texas. It has a 4.60 score, 1,444 reviews, and a 11.05 weighted score. One patron said that the general manager was "amazing" and the entire restaurant had “great energy and great customer service."
12790 NW Seventh Avenue in North Miami, Florida came in at the number two slot while 2280 East Garrison Street in Eagle Pass, Texas had the third best BK (side note: what is it about Eagle Pass, Texas and their superior fast food restaurants?). A location in El Paso, Texas (at 6085 Montana Ave) and Doral, Florida (at 11400 NW 41st street) were number four and five on the list.
The Burger King at 4301 Sunset Boulevard in Lexington, South Carolina, is ranked the worst in the entire country. It came in with a measly 1.42 score, just 114 reviews, and a -7.48 weighted score.
"They don’t even give you a receipt, ever," one person argued. "Food takes forever to come out, sauces are out of the question if you ask for them, forget about getting a straw. Fries are unsalted and cold 9/10 times, food has been left out of my order several times. The entire place is absolutely gross. Like it was wiped down with grease."
Taco Bell
The 5200 CA-1 Taco Bell, located in Pacifica, California, has been called “best Taco Bell in the West.” It grabbed the number one spot on the list of best T-Bells. It earned a 4.42 score and 9.81 weighted score with 3,400 reviews.
"Best to try and catch the sunset to sit outside and enjoy your food with a gorgeous view," the patron continued in their review. "Food-wise, mostly standard Taco Bell fare with a few special items that don’t disappoint. They also offer alcoholic drinks as well!"
A Brownsville, Texas, location (925 FM802) and Harlingen, Texas outpost (402 Dixieland road) were ranked two and three, while 3509 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Union City, New Jersey earned the fourth spot for its customer service and 420 S 10th Street in Mcallen Texas scored the fifth and final slot thanks to its “amazing” manager.
1519 Saxon Boulevard in Deltona, Florida, had the most hated Taco Bell location. Customers complained about bad food, burritos that "looked a mess," and even missing ingredients in their order.
KFC
Brazil, Indiana’s location at 637 East National Avenue is rated the country’s best KFC. It has a 4.67 score, 11.12 weighted score, and 780 reviews, including one that said the food is “hot and ready” with a “kind and helpful” staff.
"The place was packed but we had no waiting to be served," the customer added. "A great addition to our small town. I will be back."
501 South Main Street in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, 1301 Southern Hills Center in West Plains, Missouri, and 514 Commercial Street in Harrisburg, Illinois trailed shortly behind. 3970 Highway 411 in Madisonville, Tennessee nabbed the final spot on the list.
While it's hardly a surprise, the LAX airport KFC location at 380 World Way in Los Angeles is the worst location of them all. "Very rude people, poor overpriced menu. Avoid if you can. Messed up the simple order in the limited menu. Just sad. Eating there made me feel sad. I feel sorry for anyone that has to suffer this place," one patron wrote in the reviews.
