The best kind of book is a free book. Whether it’s fantasy, sci-fi or one of the best new releases, it only gets better when it’s free! We love local libraries for this, but sometimes you want a new release without having to wait in line — or return it when you’re done. If this sounds like you, Amazon has your back. As a special gift to help us bookworms get through the last of the winter, Amazon is giving readers not just one but two free e-books this month. All you need to do is be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of their First Reads program. So who's in for free book February?

What is Amazon First Reads?

In addition to the classic 2-day shipping and Prime Day sales, your Amazon membership also offers special e-book deals. Prime members always have access to Prime Reading, which offers a huge library of free e-book and magazine titles to download. For even more reading options with a rotating selection of new books, Amazon’s special two free e-book deal is via their First Reads program.

Each month, First Reads has a different selection of eight e-books that are available to download for free. These are books that haven’t been published yet, giving Amazon Prime members exclusive access to be one of the first readers — hence the name! Usually, members are only allowed to download one of the eight free e-books per month. But this month, Amazon is gifting members a second e-book from First Reads, expanding member’s exclusive access to unreleased books.

How do I get the two free e-books?

First, you must be an Amazon Prime member to be eligible for the program. Next, you need to have a Kindle to read the book on, or the free Kindle app loaded to your smartphone.

Once you’re all set up, go to the First Reads landing page and choose your favorite e-book. (Note: Make sure you are selecting your book via a web browser, and not via the Kindle or Amazon app.) One of your two e-books will be your choice, and the other is a bonus read that all First Reads members will receive.

The free e-books for this month are each from a different genre, including police procedural, women’s fiction, psychological thriller, coming of age, action, romance, gothic and suspense. Hover over the “see editor notes” option under each book to get a summary of the book from the Amazon editor who chose it. With so many options, make sure you choose wisely! And just make sure to click "Read for Free" and not "Pre-Order Now."

In addition to your e-book choice, you will also get a second, bonus read included for free: The Fall Risk by Abby Jimenez. Described as “a bite-sized romp,” the editor notes call this short romance read “practically perfect in every way,” sure to bust your winter blues.

And if two new e-books just aren’t enough for you, don’t worry. You can purchase additional First Reads titles at $1.99 each.
