Alyson Stoner is set to share their story in a powerful new book.

The entertainer and entrepreneur, who uses they/them pronouns, has shared exclusively with PEOPLE that they will publish a memoir next year. Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything is forthcoming in summer 2025 from St. Martin’s Press.

Known for their childhood roles across Disney Channel staples The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and Camp Rock, as well as their appearances in films like Cheaper by the Dozen and in Missy Elliott's "Work It" music video, Stoner, 31, was a part of Hollywood's entertainment industry at a young age. By the time they were eight, Stoner was already pulling 80-hour work weeks and “struggled to find stability in a chaotic world,” per the memoir’s description.

Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything will detail Stoner’s journey as a child star, including their “turbulent home life,” going to rehab and discovering their sexuality. At the same time, Stoner also analyzes the ecosystem of the entertainment industry, the “toddler to trainwreck pipeline” of child stars and what it took to create a new life for themselves in adulthood.

“If I was going to pen a memoir, I needed to be certain it carried a lot of weight within its pages, both personally and collectively,” Stoner tells PEOPLE. “At face value, it reveals the truths that I’ve held closest — details left unsaid because of legal contracts, stories not even my family and friends know and an extremely intimate journey of mental health and self-development.”

“I’m eager for this to serve as a larger reckoning for Hollywood and society,” Stoner adds. “I’m not holding back on sharing information that audiences deserve to know, information that, after years of research, I haven’t seen presented quite like this. I look forward to the chapters sparking deeper questions and urgent conversations.”

Today, Stoner is a multi-disciplinary entertainer, as well as the host of the award-winning Dear Hollywood podcast and CEO of mental health company Movement Genius. Stoner also appeared in the 2024 documentary Child Stars, directed by their former Disney Channel costar Demi Lovato. In that program, Stoner opened up about their experiences in the spotlight, along with other former child stars including Drew Barrymore, JoJo Siwa and Kenan Thompson.

"I think I was kind of disassociated throughout the whole journey. On the outside, you look like everything's okay, and years later, you can’t remember a thing," Stoner said in the documentary. In 2021, Stoner also penned an op-ed for PEOPLE, in which they discussed the urgency of supporting child stars.

“I believe everyone deserves to feel safe, comfortable and confident in their mind and body, especially youth who are vulnerable with fewer tools to navigate daily life,” Stoner wrote. “No matter what has happened to you, there is a way to reconnect with yourself and reclaim your story, your voice and your authority as your own.”

Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything
will be published on Aug. 12, 2025 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
