Alyson Hannigan hopes to keep her daughters from watching “American Pie” 'until they’re in college'

Unlike Taylor Swift, the actress has no plans to watch "American Pie" with [her kids] on a Saturday night.

Alyson Hannigan is not opposed to her daughters watching her films, but there's one in particular she dreads them viewing the most — even if it has Taylor Swift's apparent stamp of approval.

“When they were in elementary school, there was a phase where they both wanted to see stuff that we’d been in, like Buffy or whatever, and they were still too young,” Hannigan, 50, told Us Weekly of her daughters — ages 12 and 15 — with husband and Buffy the Vampire Slayer costar Alexis Denisof.

When the subject of her famous raunch-com American Pie came up, Hannigan said, much to her relief, her daughters have not yet wanted to watch that one, despite its resurgence in the zeitgeist this year thanks to a shoutout in Swift's Tortured Poets Department track "So High School."

“They haven’t mentioned that they wanna see it, but they know how exciting it is. Taylor might’ve piqued their interest, but not that they’ve mentioned,” she said. “That’s the one I dread the most. … Hopefully, I can just ride it out until they’re in college.”

In "So High School," which is widely speculated to be about Swift's relationship with boyfriend Travis Kelce, the singer-songwriter sings that "I'm watching American Pie with you on a Saturday night." Hannigan, who is a well-known Swiftie, joked with the outlet, “I got to be with Taylor and Travis [Kelce] on the dates, really. Just the three of us — I mean, in my mind that’s how it went."

Hannigan previously shared her reaction of when she first heard the Swift track in an interview with Vulture in June. "I started listening to [the album], and when I got to ‘So High School,’ I was like, What?! I thought maybe I was still sort of sleeping and imagining it,” the How I Met Your Mother star told the publication. “But when I heard it, I was freaking out. I woke up my entire family who seemed less enthusiastic than I’d like them to be. Then, I called a friend, and she and I had a nice freakout together. I was so happy. Basically, I was on the date with Travis and Taylor.”

Hannigan's Dancing With the Stars partner, Sasha Farber, also shared a video on Instagram of the two of them jamming out to the lyric in April. "EPICCCCC MOMENT!!! Alyson showing me Taylor’s new song, talks about American Pie !!!!!" he wrote in the post's caption. For her part, Swift hasn't provided further context on her American Pie viewing habits, but did like Farber's Instagram post.
