Alone Australia fans left outraged by major detail and call for change: 'So f***ing dumb'

Some Alone Australia fans have been left angry at one huge detail.

Alone Australia fans have called for a major change to be made for future seasons, with social media users left confused over the fact the Australian show was shot in New Zealand. The show's first season was filmed in Tasmania, but season two was shot in New Zealand's South Island. Some fans believe the location is Lake Manapouri, south of Te Anau, or at least nearby.

In season one, contestants were forced to abide by strict hunting regulations, which left many surviving on eels. In New Zealand, however, contestants are able to hunt but can't eat eels, which are protected for cultural reasons.

Joseph Maxwell, head of unscripted programs at SBS told The Guardian last year, "We absolutely loved the innovation we saw in Tasmania, but there’s some pretty strict hunting regulations there."

"By choosing New Zealand, we’re able to introduce bows and arrows, which brings in whole new strategies and skill sets," he added. "And it is an absolutely stunning location. Where Tasmania had a real, claustrophobic intensity about it, New Zealand is a place of grandeur. It is absolutely stunning.

Fans slam season two's location

"So f***ing dumb this s**t isn't actually IN Australia," one angry viewer wrote on X. "Sadly, producers are fixated on cold environments. Send them to the Kimberley in the middle of summer with the threat of crocodiles & cyclones, let's make #AloneAustralia our own brand, with unique challenges!"

"Next season of #AloneAustralia should be in a hot climate," another wrote. "Point of difference with global series and would have unique challenges."

"Trying to get my head around #AloneAustralia being filmed in NZ," a third said.

"Watching #AloneAustralia on @SBS. Somewhat confused as to why it's not called 'Alone New Zealand', given that's where it's situated (ie NOT Australia🤪) but loving the jaw dropping scenery," someone else added.

When it was first announced that the show would be shot in New Zealand, Reddit users shared their surprise.

"On one level, yep, great decision, totally get it, amazing areas to pick from, too," one user wrote at the time. "On another level, I would have liked to see more Aussie country... I know the hunting and all that but surely in some state forest somewhere they could have done something cool."

"I was hoping for the Kimberly in the wet season," another said, with one user responding, "Contending with the croc threat would have been interesting."

"Could there be anything more Australian than shooting a show in NZ and calling it Alone Australia? Get your filthy hands off our [pavlova] ya dogs," a third joked.

"I mean Alone US has been filmed in Canada, Argentina and Mongolia," one user pointed out.
