Summer is finally here, and that means long days by the pool, family vacations, and lots of backyard cookouts. We surveyed almost 50 Allrecipes Allstars to find out the #1 thing they’re looking forward to this summer; the responses were a joyful collection of all the best things the season has to offer, including, not surprisingly, the Allstars’ favorite summer foods.
High summer produce is top of mind among the Allstars. Jody Cru says she can’t wait to eat the first perfectly ripe summer tomato right off the vine, while Brenda Venable is hoping for an ice-cold wedge of watermelon to keep her cool on the hottest summer days. Several Allstars plan to don their “Kiss the Cook” aprons and fire up the grill, including Nosheen Babar, who looks forward to grilling her family’s Pakistani specialties and Ashley Berger, who won’t rest until she’s grilled the perfect marinated hot dog. Meanwhile, Jenna Urben says her summer bucket list includes sipping sweet tea on the patio. And we know summer is prime s’mores season. As Allstar Lisa Altmiller says, “Summer isn’t summer until your hands are sticky from melted marshmallows and chocolate!”
Both Ramona Cruz-Peters and Jessica Formicola hope to trek across the country visiting MLB ballparks, and Formicola adds she plans to order the most unique eats at each stop. Travel made the cut for many of our Allstars, including Carol Miller, who’s headed to Sicily with family; Paula Roten, who’s hitting the national parks of Utah; and Jane Wilcox, who will be casting her line for trout in Colorado.
