Alison Krauss & Union Station Announce Group’s First Tour in a Decade, With 73 Shows Set for North America
Long absent from the scene while group members pursued other projects, Alison Krauss & Union Station will reunite in 2025 for a 73-show North American tour and a new album. The tour will mark the first time the group has gone out on the road in 10 years, while the album will be their first new studio effort in 14 years.
The road show has the official billing of Alison Krauss & Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas, reflecting the fame that lap steel and dobro player Douglas carries on his own. Longtime members Ron Block and Barry Bales are also along for the ride on the “Arcadia Tour,” with bluegrass star Russell Moore, of IIIrd Tyme Out fame, coming aboard as a new member on guitar and vocals.

Krauss had most recently been seen touring with Robert Plant as a duo, on the heels of their second album together, 2021’s “Raise the Roof.” The Plant/Krauss bill played amphitheaters across the country in the summers of 2022 through 2024. Prior to that, Krauss toured extensively as a solo artist in the late 2010s.
“I’m so grateful to get to make music again with my comrades of 40 years,” Krauss said in a statement. “They’ve always accomplished incredible work individually and have been constantly traveling because of it. We’re very inspired to experience this new exciting chapter in the band’s history.”
No information was offered about the forthcoming album in the announcement, other than that it is due in 2025. It will be the group’s first album together since “Paper Airplane” came out in 2011.
From the announcement, it appears that Russell Moore will be stepping into a slot vacated by Dan Tyminski, who joined the group in the early 1990s but is not participating in the upcoming tour. Tyminski has developed a successful solo career in his own right.
Moore brings plenty of cachet. As the frontman for IIIrd Tyme Out, he’s a six-time winner for male vocalist honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA). His group has won the org’s vocal group of the year award seven times.
“To say I’m excited about recording and touring with Alison Krauss & Union Station would be a huge understatement,” Moore said in a statement. “After 40 years of playing music full-time and leading my own group for 34 years, this opportunity is among the few things at the top of the list that my music career has offered me. My hopes and desires are to fill this spot in AKUS with the same professionalism, precision and thoughtfulness as other members who have held this position before me, and I’m looking forward to the ‘ride.’”
The career of Alison Krauss & Union Station dates back to 1989, when the ensemble released its debut album — albeit with an entirely different lineup back then apart from Krauss, although Douglas was a guest player on dobro on the early albums. Block and Bales joined up by the time of the group’s third album in 1992.
