Alec Baldwin Recalls When His Daughter Carmen ‘Lit’ the 30 Rock Christmas Tree and 'Completely Threw Off' the Ceremony

Alec Baldwin is looking back on a special memory with his daughter.

During the latest episode of The Baldwins, the 30 Rock alum, 67, is enjoying the last few days of summer before school starts for his kids. In a confessional with his daughter Carmen, 11, Baldwin recalls a fond memory of his daughter, whom he shares with wife Hilaria Baldwin, lighting the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

"You lit the Christmas tree in 30 Rockefeller Plaza," he remembers. "The button is a gag button. It's a prop button. It doesn't actually turn the tree on, but you hit the button, and the guys are ready. They're all standing by to cue the lights."

"Carmen goes bang, and she hits the button, and you can see all these guys are going, 'The kid hit the button,' " he continues. "You've completely freaked out, like 100 union electrical employees.”

"That's what you did," Baldwin says, looking at his daughter as she laughs beside him. "I don't care. It's not my fault Ava and Ali didn't believe me," she adds in between her laughter.

"That defines this kid," he says. "You completely threw off the whole Christmas tree lighting gave 100 men a heart attack, and you're like, 'I don't care.'"

The It's Complicated star is a dad of eight. Since tying the knot with his wife Hilaria, 41, in 2012, the pair welcomed seven children, including three daughters, Carmen Gabriela, María Lucía Victoria, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, and four sons, Rafael Thomas, Leonardo Ángel Charles, Romeo Alejandro Davidand Eduardo "Edu" Pao Lucas. Alec's also dad to daughter Ireland Baldwin, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger.

During an interview with Romper in June 2023, Hilaria said Ilaria is "probably, most definitely, almost completely" her last child. Ahead of the release of their TLC reality series, The Baldwins, in February 2025, Alec said he "wouldn't change anything" about their big family.

“I always joke with her and say, ‘You know where I should be right now, don’t you? We should be on Geffen’s yacht, drinking a cappuccino and reading a book, and having dinner with Spielberg or whatever,’ ” he said, while Hilaria added, “Instead we’re changing diapers!”

On an earlier episode of The Baldwins, the Beetlejuice actor shared that after having his daughter, Ireland, when he was 38, the comedian feels like his parenting style has changed since he's welcomed his seven younger kids, the first of whom he welcomed at 56.

As Alec discussed his difference in parenting styles to Hilaria, he said that "things have changed so much."

"Everything has changed, I think when you're her age and you have kids, and you get older, you get tougher," he said. "For me, as I'm getting older and older, and I don't want to be tougher. I don't want to be anything. I just want to be a father to my kids."

"I want to just watch and see what the years I have left us to experience and not have it be about me," Alec added.
