Alec Baldwin accused of refusing to apologize to mother of late “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins

Olga Solovey won't attend the premiere.

Three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on the set of Rust, the movie is finally set to premiere Nov. 20 at the Camerimage Festival in Poland. Her mother, Olga Solovey, will not be there to see it.

She released a statement through her attorney, Gloria Allred, explaining why: "It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen. Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter. Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death. Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter. That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust, especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter."

Baldwin shot Hutchins on Oct. 21, 2021, when a prop gun that was supposed to contain dummy rounds, fired live ammunition. Director Joel Souza was also struck in the incident, although he recovered.

Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter for his role in the tragedy, but the case was ultimately thrown out in July. Baldwin has denied pulling the trigger.

The person responsible for the weapons on set, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in March. Prosecutors argued that she was careless in her duties and had unknowingly brought live ammunition to the set. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

First assistant director David Halls was charged with negligent use of a deadly weapon and accepted a plea bargain in March 2023.

Allred added to Solovey's statement that Baldwin's "decision not to even call the family to say he is sorry is cruel and dishonors Halyna and her memory," according to PEOPLE.

EW has reached out to Baldwin's representatives for comment.

Baldwin has faced multiple civil lawsuits in the matter, including from Hutchins' family.

In August, Souza told Vanity Fair that he wanted to finish the movie, because he wanted to be able to offer her husband and young son financial support. He also wanted Rust to be a tribute to her.

"At a certain point it was conveyed to me that there was going to be some form of settlement and that Matt Hutchins was going to be involved as a producer. This is what he wanted," Souza said. "I knew that the movie being finished would financially benefit Halyna's family, which is very important to me. And I know this can sound trite for people who aren't creative, but her last work matters. People seeing her last work matters. That was the tipping point for me in the decision."

Matthew Hutchins is listed as a producer on the film, which released first-look images in January.
