An Aldi customer was dismayed to discover something very unappetising in her Mexican meal kit, sharing photos of the find with her fellow shoppers in a Facebook group. The customer explained that she had opened the kit to make dinner, only to discover the tortillas were a violent shade of green thanks to mould.

"Just opened our taco kit to make dinner and came across these wraps. bb date 2/11/24," she wrote along with some vomit emojis. She also shared photos of the offending wraps, which had been part of the El Tora Crispy Chicken Soft Taco Kit.

"I will be checking mine tonight before cooking the meat! What an unpleasant surprise," one sympathetic group member wrote.

Ohh extra penicillin, you should be right for winter," someone quipped, trying to lighten things up. "I can hear all the cupboards opening to check their taco boxes."

"That really sucks especially if you have already prepared the meat to go with it," another shopper commiserated. "All well and good you can get a refund but doesn't help the fact that you're ready to serve. That's a shame."

"That sucks hun! I hate it when you are relying on it for dinner! Just take it back or show them photos! Hopefully, you have a back up for dinner! Do you have any other wraps around? Or make a chicken bowl instead?" someone else helpfully offered.

Other group members were quick to point out that the issue is not exclusive to Aldi products, with several people sharing the bad experiences they'd had elsewhere.

"Ugh! I’ve had that happen to me twice with wraps from Coles. Put me off them for weeks!" someone else

"I’ve had this with old El Paso brand too," another said.

"That's the manufacturer, not Aldi's fault - I'd contact them directly," a third said.

"So frustrating! You pretty much have to open and check everything before you are ready to use it. I opened a box of pasta from Woolies yesterday to use for dinner and it was full of bugs. Luckily I have other pasta I could use," a different shopper said.

The reason for the mould infestation was also quickly pointed out by several group members who noted that there was a tiny hole in the plastic in which the wraps were encased.

"I can see a tiny hole in the bag in the top corner where the mould predominantly is. This can happen with any brand from any supermarket. Simply take it back for a refund," was one comment.

"The tortilla bag wasn’t sealed properly you can see where in the pic," was another - along with photographic evidence.

"Air has gotten into the plastic bag so wasn’t sealed properly. This happened to me a while ago. There should be a 1800 number on the back of the box. I called that number and they gave me a $10 credit to use the next time I shopped. Was a bit inconvenient as it was dinner time and I had to conjure up something else," yet another person added.

There were also plenty of comments from people who said to simply alert Aldi to the issue - a sentiment echoed by an official spokesperson for the popular grocery chain.

In a statement made to Yahoo Lifestyle, the spokesperson said, “ALDI has stringent quality standards and so we encourage any customer to feedback to ALDI directly via the help centre, so we can investigate all allegations of a product not meeting expectations.”
