Aldi's fruit mince pies beat Coles and Woolies in taste test

If you're going to be serving fruit mince pies this Christmas but aren't sure where to buy them from, don't stress, because the hard tasting work has already been done.

Choice reviewed 26 different fruit mince pies from brands including Aldi, Bakers Delight, Coles, Walkers, Woolworths and more so we don't have to.

Aldi came out on top, beating their competitors Coles and Woolworths with their Aldi's Specially Selected Sloe Gin Fruit Mince Tarts, which scored an expert rating of 83 per cent.

"We blind taste tested 26 fruit mince pie and tart products that are available in major supermarkets and leading bakeries," said Rachel Clemons, Choice food expert.

"There are so many flavourful options this year. There were some interesting ones such as 'blood orange and fig', 'spiced orange and cranberry' or our top scorer 'sloe gin'."

"Aldi's Sloe Gin Fruit Mince Tarts were the tastiest pick by our judges with a CHOICE Expert Score of 83 per cent. It stood out for our judges with its light, crisp, buttery melt-in-mouth pastry and premium feel," said Rachel.

Rachel also revealed major supermarkets had done very well this year, taking out the top six spots on the list.

Those who are gluten free don't miss out, with Coles Gluten Free Fruit Mince Pies receiving an impressive score of 77 per cent.

"If you're coeliac or have an intolerance to gluten, you really don't have to miss out on these tasty Christmas treats," Rachel said.

When it comes to price, the cheapest pies on the list were just $0.25 per pie, while Woolworths Gold Gin Infused Pear & Riberry Fruit Mince Tarts were the most expensive at $1.50, but was among the top rated.
