It’s the crowning jewel in every kitchen lucky enough to afford one, but if the $2,000-plus price tag that comes with the Thermomix is way outside your budget, don’t fear, Aldi has the solution.

Once again, the bargain grocery chain has come to our rescue and summoned up a $299 knockoff, that will have shoppers scrambling over each other to grab.

The Mistral Thermo Cooker is part of their upcoming Special Buys and goes on sale across Australia on September 7. And we suspect few will be left beyond that date.

The product is touted as an all-in-one cooking machine that does just about anything at the push of a button, including the ability to chop, mince, cook, boil, beat, fry, knead, blend, stew, stir, steam, grate, saute, mix, melt, mill, whip and even crush ice and grind nuts. Impressive, we know.

An Aldi spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle their offering “is the ultimate multi-tasker with eight appliances in one”.

“Featuring a 2L stainless steel bowl and 1000W of heating power you can create endless recipes, from casseroles and fresh dough to desserts and iced drinks.”

Meanwhile the Thermomix TM6 still comes out on top, offering users the ability to sous vide, emulsify, and even ferment.

But how does Aldi’s version stack up to the much more expensive original?

Well, some will say you get what you pay for and the Thermomix is far superior, but the Mistral definitely has a fan base on social media.

One person who bought the same model when it was being sold a number of years ago at Big W gave it a glowing review.

“Such a great alternative, only difference is it doesn't have built in scales and has 2 blades but is still amazing for the price,” they wrote under a post on the Aldi Lovers Australia Instagram page.

Another suggested that while it was good, it’s no Thermomix, saying, “Great for the price. Excellent way to suss out of the thermie life is for you.”

“But as one who did four years of an Aldi cooker and then upgraded to a thermie....... there is no comparison. Thermie is the absolute tits!!!”

In high demand

Aldi fans are already preparing for long lines for the product, with some saying on Facebook, “better start queuing now” and “This is the moment we camp outside lol”.

Others simply left running emojis, suggesting this product will be flying off shelves when it goes on sale at the end of next week.

This isn’t the first time Aldi has attempted to sell a Thermomix knockoff, but the last iteration which was created by another brand Kuchef ended in disaster back in 2014.

Plagued by an issue where overloaded mixers were spitting out hot food, the item was recalled and Aldi has since ditched that brand in favour of Mistral.
