Woman, 29, says husband, 59, is constantly mistaken for her dad
A woman says strangers constantly mistake her husband for being her father due to their thirty year age gap.
After meeting through a mutual friend nine years ago, Devin Kennedy, now 29, and her husband Tommy, 59, hit it off right away and quickly fell in love.
But the pair kept their relationship a secret for a year before telling anyone due to their fear of being judged because of their age gap.
With 30 years between them, Devin said strangers always mistake her husband for being her father – and even mistake their kids together for being Tommy’s grandchildren.
The couple met through a mutual friend and she was initially taken with how kind he was to her son, whom she has from another relationship.

“I didn’t know how to process that I was having feelings for someone so much older,” Devin said.
Proud mum Devin, from Cape Canaveral, Florida, had her son Logan, 14, before meeting Tommy - and now the pair have welcomed two children into the world, Serenity, seven, and Kadence, five.
While the couple are head over heels in love, Devin said their age gap does occasionally present some challenges – such as strangers thinking Tommy, who owns a home improvement business, is her dad and not her husband.
“Anytime we all go out together, people automatically think he is my father,” she said.
“Strangers will tell Tommy ‘aren’t your grandchildren beautiful!’ when he is with the kids.
“And if we hold hands or share a peck on the lips in public, we definitely get a few strange glances from people.
“When our youngest son was being born, the nurses in the hospital asked if I wanted my dad there beside me during labour.
“I had to explain to them that he wasn’t my dad, he was my husband and the father of my kids.
“We have been together so long now and it’s just so normal for us. We just laugh about it. It’s our life and we’re happy.”
Devin said that it took a little while for her father to come around to the idea of her dating someone who is older than him.
But after meeting Tommy a few times, she was relieved that both of her parents liked him and were happy for her.
“I’m one of five kids, and Tommy is a little older than my dad, so that was hard for him,” she said.
“But once he realised what a good man he is, and none of this was for the wrong reasons, everyone was happy for me.”
The loved-up pair got engaged in 2013 and finally tied the knot at a beautiful small beach wedding in October 2020.
Now Devin and Tommy are sharing their story to help break down misconceptions surrounding age-gap relationships and to prove that love is love, no matter what that might look like.
“At the end of the day, we just want a successful relationship and to succeed together in life,” she said.
“Before meeting Tommy, I’d had boyfriends my age but I never really clicked with them in the same way.
“I adore Tommy’s drive. He has passion and wants things in life.
“Seeing him be a father melts my heart. He is so gentle and cares about everybody, that is what made me fall in love with him.
“You can never judge a book by its cover. You don’t know anyone’s story.
“Whether it’s an age-gap, biracial or same-sex relationship, love is love and that is all that matters.
“We adore each other and I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I feel very lucky.”
