Amie Rohan has opened up about how estranged husband Gary helped her through the devastating loss of one of their twin daughters.

Amie and Gary, a superstar of the AFL with the Geelong Cats, have reportedly split in scandalous circumstances.

The Herald Sun reported the couple's separation in November, less than eight months after the birth of their daughter Sadie Rose in March.

Amie and Gary had been married for four years before things turned sour while Gary was away in the club's Queensland quarantine hub during the majority of the 2020 season.

While Amie has remained largely tight-lipped about the separation, she has now opened up about how Gary was her "rock" during the most devastating time in their lives.

The couple welcomed twin girls Bella Ray and Willow into the world in 2018, however Willow did not survive childbirth.

The Rohans bravely shared their journey to childbirth after learning that Willow had suffered an incurable neural defect known as anencephaly, which caused her to pass away just five hours after she was born.

Amie has now told the Herald Sun that Gary was the reason she managed to cope with the tragedy.

“Gary was my rock at the time and the support network got us through,” she said.

“I went into the whole premmy baby NICU life very naive. It made me realise that there’s always someone in a worse off position.

“We were dealt a tough blow with Willow and having to be strong for Bella. But we got to meet families that were in there for months on end.”

Amie Rohan speaks out after reported separation

Last month Amie shared heartbreaking details of their final moments with Willow.

“I held onto Willow, she held my little finger,” she told the Women of Influence with Kate Meade Podcast.

“And they took us up into a special room and we got some more photos and stuff taken and Bella came back with us.

"And then Bella had to go down into the NICU so she got separated from me.

“And we took Willow upstairs to our room and we just had cuddles and time with her.”

On the same podcast Amie was asked about the state of her relationship with Gary, but didn't go into great detail.

“The initial feud part was really hard. I had no idea how I was going to do it," she said.

"I basically had the lowest days of my life, I probably fell into a deep depression and I lent on those close to me.

“I let out everything I was feeling but I think when you have so much emotional attachment and stories you just don’t ever want to go through it.”

She could be heard in tears at the end of her reply.
