Adrien Brody Just Revealed That A Makeup Artist Tried To “Remove” His Nose Because She Thought It Was A Prosthetic
If you have ever embarrassed yourself at work, spare a thought for the makeup artist who literally tried to pull off Adrien Brody’s nose during filming for his new movie, The Brutalist.
In case you’ve not seen the critically acclaimed film yet, Adrien’s character ages 30 years during the story, and his older look was established with prosthetics.
And during his appearance on The Tonight Show on Monday evening, Adrien recounted the awkward crew moment to host Jimmy Fallon.
“They did apply a lot of [prosthetics],” Adrien began. “They had to do a prosthetic procedure. It’s funny; everyone's very busy, it's a movie with a lot of moving pieces, and so I had a new team of people who I had never met.”
"They were removing this apparatus all over me, and this woman was busily working away with a solvent on my nose,” he went on.
"She's just working away, and I said, 'Are you trying to remove that?’” Adrien recalled, pointing at his nose. "And she said: ‘Yes,’ and I said: 'That doesn't come off.’”
Thankfully, Adrien could see the funny side of the situation and laughed as Jimmy burst into hysterics beside him.
And, it seems, the makeup artist wasn’t left too flustered by the moment either, with Adrien adding: “And then she says: ‘Oh, I'm so sorry.' And then she goes: ‘This is going in my diary!’”
“Why not?” Adrien chuckled, going on to quip: "Now it's going in my talk show repertoire, there you have it!"
The Brutalist is up for 10 awards at this year’s Oscars, with Adrien in the running for the coveted Best Actor accolade, nose and all.
The star is up against Timothée Chalamet for A Complete Unknown, Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes for Conclave, and Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice.
It’s worth noting that Adrien, now 51, is actually the current record-holder for the youngest man to win the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in The Pianist back in 2003, when he was just 29 years old.
Discussing this achievement during his Fallon interview, the star admitted: “I was very young then and I've gained a lot of perspective through the years.”
“I’ve had a wonderful career but there's been plenty of peaks and valleys, and I think right now — I was very aware of how remarkable those circumstances were then," he went on. "I'm more aware now, and how special and rare this moment is, so I have a tremendous amount of appreciation.”
Adrien concluded: “I’m so grateful for the recognition. It's a remarkable thing, and I'm so grateful for the work."
