‘Adolescence’ Leads Netflix TV Charts In Debut Week; ‘Back In Action’ Secures Spot On Most Popular Film List

Netflix’s ambitious one-shot series Adolescence made some noise on the platform in its debut week, racking up 24.3M views in just a few days.

That put it at No. 1 on the English TV list and, per Netflix, the show was the most-streamed series of the week in 71 countries.

Adolescence in second among all titles on Netflix for March 10 to 16, because Joe and Anthony Russo’s The Electric State eked out the win with 25.2M views. Millie Bobby Brown has been on a hot streak lately with Netflix, marking her third No. 1 film debut on the streamer after Enola Holmes 2 and Damsel.

However, it would have been expected that The Electric State (which is one of the most expensive films ever made with a budget of $320M) would significantly outperform a modest British miniseries with no stars.

It’s worth noting that 25M views for the opening weekend of any Netflix film is a very small turnout. For example, Back in Action, which debuted in January and just made it onto the Most Popular English Films List, secured 46.8M views in its opening weekend. Enola Holmes 2 debuted to about 64.1M hours streamed, which translates to about 32M views, while Damsel recorded about 35M views in its first three days.

Factor in the star power in The Electric State, which should have driven even more interest, and it seems safe to say this isn’t a positive outcome for Netflix.

Elsewhere in TV, Running Point racked up 6M views, making it second on the English series list, while Zero Day scored third place with 4.4M views.
