ABC comedian Shaun Micallef has turned on his network after an awkward blunder saw an old episode of his weekly show, Mad as Hell, air last night instead of the one he recorded this week.

Fans of the show were disappointed to find that instead of a new episode at 8.30pm, the ABC was repeating last week’s edition - an error on their part that didn’t go down too well on social media.

Viewers quickly cottoned onto the mistake, and Shaun himself Tweeted: “They're playing the wrong one. #idiots”.

While the correct episode has since been uploaded to iView, the real fun was all on Twitter where everyone enjoyed a joke at the ABC’s expense, starting with Shaun.

“Tried ringing the switchboard but Peter Dutton answered so I hung up,” he said.

“It's a good episode too. Nice and topical. Maybe they'll play it next week.”

ABC News Breakfast presenter Michael Rowland also piled on, saying: “I’m reliably informed the correct episode of @BreakfastNews will air tomorrow morning.”

While 7.30 comedian Mark Humphries offered: “I regret to inform you that the correct episode of Young Sheldon aired tonight”.

Here are some other choice Tweets that kept viewers entertained in the absence of their show:
