“90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days” star David Murphey dies at 66
According to his family, Murphey had been "experiencing health issues over the last several years."
David Murphey, who appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days and several follow-up programs in the franchise, has died at the age of 66, according to a statement from his family.
"We are deeply saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024 after experiencing health issues over the last several years," his family wrote on Instagram. "David was a veteran, small business owner, and software engineer. He had recently retired from the Clark County Treasurer’s office in Nevada, having also worked for H&R Block and IGT. He was also well known for his time as a cast member on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days."
Murphey was featured on season 4 of the TLC reality show in 2020, when cameras followed him to Ukraine to meet his girlfriend Lana.
His trips to meet Lana were often fruitless as she frequently stood him up over their seven-year romance, to the point that he suspected she was a catfish. Murphey even hired a private investigator once Svetlana's address turned out to be fake. The two eventually did meet, but Murphey soon after announced their separation.

Having sworn off American women, Murphey turned to a paid dating service specializing in Ukrainian women. He once told Shaun Robinson — who hosts the 90 Day Fiancé tell-all specials at the end of each season — that he had spent $250,000 to $300,000 on about 20 trips to Ukraine over 20 years to meet the various romantic interests he had chosen from an online catalog.
"His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram," his family's statement continued. "He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans."
Murphey is survived by his two sisters and his cat Gamera.
